Some Facts about sustaining a Concussion

Did you know that fewer than 10% of sport related concussions involve a loss of consciousness? When it comes to sports, football is the most common sport for males to sustain a concussion (with an astounding 75% chance) and soccer for females (with a 50% chance). Did you also know that 78% of concussions occur during games as opposed to practices? And that some studies show that females are twice as likely to sustain a concussion than males. (

Did you know that March is Brain Injury Awareness Month? Did you also know that 1.7 million people, including 475,000 children, sustain a traumatic brain injury (TBI) in the U.S. each year. A traumatic brain injury is a blow, jolt or bump to the head or a penetrating head injury that disrupts the normal function of the brain. TBIs are caused by falls (35%), car crashes (17%), workplace accidents (16%), assualts (10%), and other (21%). TBIs are a contributing factor in a third (30.5%) of all injury-related deaths in the United States (Brain Injury Association of America).
